As my first Elective Project, I have been chosen into the “Game Arts” group. Our aim in this project is to create an artifact concept out of the three following games and then transfer our design onto Maya and create a 3D artifact design.
I am really excited for this project as I will have the option to improve my designing and 3D modelling skills.
The games that are available for us to choose are;
- Zelda
- Sea of Thieves
- Ori and The Blind Forest
After searching each game, I have decided to go with the “Ori and The Blind Forest” one. The main reason behind this is because I really liked the gameplay of it and the whole environment of the game looked pretty neat for me to create an artifact. Also, I really loved the character designs of the game as well.

Ori and The Blind Forest
The forest of Nibel is dying. After a powerful storm sets a series of devastating events in motion, an unlikely hero must journey to find his courage and confront a dark nemesis to save his home. “Ori and the Blind Forest” tells the tale of a young orphan destined for heroics, through a visually stunning action-platformer crafted by Moon Studios for PC. Featuring hand-painted artwork, meticulously animated character performance, and a fully orchestrated score, “Ori and the Blind Forest” explores a deeply emotional story about love and sacrifice, and the hope that exists in us all.

Concept Art of The Game
Since the game is an adventure/action type game, it has some amazing concept and character designs behind it. The colour schemes used in the making and the overall art style is what made me to choose this game to create an artifact to.

Moodboard
As my next step, I wanted to create a Moodboard in order to choose the right colour scheme and atmospehere for my artifact design.

Artefact Concept
After I was %100 sure about the game which I’ll be making an artefact for, I have moved on to the process of research. First, because I didn’t know the game very well I have watched some gameplay videos. The gameplay itself was really fascinating and it intrigued me so much. As I was watching the gameplay, I have started to think about a possible artefact design that I could make.
After I have watched it more carefully, I have seen that there isn’t a designed artefact for the “saving point”. It was more like a sparkly flare which I thought was incomplete. So, I decided to create an artefact of “saving point” for the game “Ori and the Blind Forest”.
Design
I have decided to create my resurrection point similar to a crystal-rock shape. Around it, I have imagined of adding several crystals because I thought that it would fit the game’s aura. As for my final touch I have decided to add a star point on top of the crystal-rock because the game environment is basically dark at such times and a resurrection point needs to show itself out.
While rendering my artefact in Maya, In am imagining to centre the light spot in the star point to basically turn it into a resurrection point.
Sketch
Before starting my sketch, I have researched about experienced prop artists around the internet, mainly in Artstation. The artists which mainly inspired me in the process were “Johannes Figlhuber, German Reina Carbona and Jasmin Habezai-Fekri.
I have sketched several possible designs for my artefact. I have also sketched the possible surrounding concepts in my crystal-rock artefact.

2D Design Sheet
After I have completed my sketches, I have decided on the 4th one to design further on. My design is basically a crystal rock, with additional crystals around the design and an upper crystal to indicate the saving point. Since the game itself has a lot of blue-purple colours around the environment, I have decided to colour my design according to those colours to make it fit to the environment.

3D Modelling Sheet
After I have completed my initial design, I have moved on to create turnarounds. This method will benefit me while creating my 3D artefact design because it will help me to see every different angle.
