As our upcoming project, we are going to work on the topic of “horror” under the project name CTS. Our study materials will namely revolve around deep research, watching short and normal movies about the topic and getting inspiration from other artists.
Short Movies
In our first lecture session, we have looked through different type of short movies ranging from 1960’s to our present day. The movies which we have watched had an exact meaning of “heaven and hell”, with a mixture of horror traits inside. The broadest example of this was in the movie called “Necrology” by Standish Lauders. For about 11 minutes straight, we are seeing a bunch of different people who are going upside as the camera goes down. This is basically a reference of the people who are going to heaven.
The movies which we have watched are;

The Shining
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, “The Shining(1980)”, is a 2 hour and 30 minutes long horror, thriller movie based on the writing of Stephen King. The movie itself is about a family which heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.
As a movie of late 19’s, I really founded it be super thrill-seeking and powerful. With the camera angles and the legendary directing of Stanley Kubrick, the movie got into a whole new level. Besides the horror movies in our daily lives, it has a different taste to it. Nowadays, horror movies are quite “cheap” in terms of the repetitive jump-scares and the generic soundtracks. I have never heard such interesting thrill build-up soundtracks as I have heard in this movie. Such a masterpiece!

Room 237
A subjective documentary by Rodney Ascher that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining (1980). The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they’ll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

The movie itself was really strange as it has exposed so many new stuff apart from the original. It’s a short documentary with people exposing the hidden meanings behind some scenes. I found it really unique and mysterious just like the original movie.
Scare Them In 6
As our next task, we are aimed to create a 6 panelled storyboard which contains a short horror story. As for my story, I have decided to create a woman encountering with poltergeist. The poltergeist appears on woman’s TV after she changes the channel. I had a lot of fun while creating the storyboard.
